Day 2: Brazil Capoeira and Pizza

Pizza from Giordano's after Capoeira

Teachers and students participating in Capoeira at the Japanese cultural center

Leonard: Capoeira was awesome! What came to a surprise for me is that the dance/martial arts of Capoeira is present in all parts of life. I am an avid video gamer, and thus I played the video game Tekken. Tekken is a fighting game which also happens to showcase Eddy Gordo, whose main form of fighting is stylized in the Capoeira art. Then we ate pizza.

Robert: Our AGORA group went to the Japanese Cultural Center to learn about Capoeira, the martial art that combines dance with music and fighting. We learned about the different instruments that are used in the performance as well as learning how to attack and defend in the style of Capoeira. Then, we went to Giordano's and ate some good pizza.

Tony: The Japanese Cultural Center was an amazing experience for the whole group.  We all learned how to do a specific Brazilian martial arts called Capoeira.  We learned how to use many different instruments like the cowbell and the drums.  The instructors were very nice with our group, guiding us through each instrument and each defensive move.  After we attended the center, we went to Giordano's to enjoy some delicious pizza.  It was definitely a unique experience that will stay with me forever.

Ivanna: Capoeira is a Brazilian kind of dance fighting accompanied by music. The group took a 101 course on Capoeira and on the instruments/music accompanies Capoeira. This experience was eye opening because many of us did not know anything about Capoeira in General. This trip turned out to be a well-rounded learning experience.
